Rainy Summer

Hey Everyone,

Sorry I haven't written for a while, especially about the Europeans. We didn't have internet access very easily there, but anyway, less of the excuses. The Euros were brilliant, such great practise and great inspiration with it being the last time I will see most of my friends from all over the world before they compete at the Olympic Games in a few days time. People keep asking me, do you wish you were out in Beijing, and the answer is, obviously, of course I would! I'd give my left arm to be there, but it's not my time yet, the hard work and grind must continue for longer, but that is fine, I love it really!!

We just had our planning meeting to decide about everything, training and competing wise, leading up to March. It's going to be a hard few months with the pysiologist wanting a minimum of 8 hours areobic training per week and 3 or 4 strength sessions., on top of being out on the water. Where all of this time will come from I don't know but it's got to come from somewhere!

In two weeks time I am helping to run a sailing camp at the Royal Marines base in Poole, for the children and relatives of Marines fighting abroad. It will be great fun to work with people who have never enjoyed sailing before and I get to stay in the marines barracks, eat in their mess and train in their gym, exciting stuff.

Preparations are also in full swing for the Sail for Gold Regatta held in Weymouth in September. Will be and exciting week. Watch this space!

Kieler Woche 2008

So I'm finally home after 5 hard days racing  in Germany. I have made a video as the event report with video clips, photos of the sailing etc so check in out here.  Overally the week was a great warm up event leading into the Europeans in 2 weeks time and I have come away with a lot of confidence about my fitness and my sailing as a whole.

This week I am back onto some hard cardio and strength training with the beginning of next week set aside for rest before the Europeans. After the Europeans I am doing a placement at an Engineering Company, Faber Maunsell, in Exeter and coaching children of Royal Marine's fror a week at the Marines Base in Poole, but more on that later. Off for a run now in the lovely Hampshire sunshine!

Windy in Kiel!

Arrived in Kiel, Germany on Saturday night. Spent the first day chilling and catching up on the sleep lost on the journey. Yesterday (Sunday) I went out for a brilliant training sail and I'm feeling pretty good for this event coming up. I am just using it as a warm up for the Europeans which are in less than 4 weeks time. At the moment it is windy (30 knots +)  but the forecast for the rest of the week looks less , more like the conditions we expect in Belgium.

Exam results are released on Wednesday, the first day of racing, so I'll probably only be able to get them on Wednesday evening.

Things are feeling good in the build up to the Europeans, so I'm happy!

Exams over...sailing starts!

So, exams are all done and over and it feels awesome! Think they went quite well too really but don't want to jinx it. We haven't been told when results are yet so I'm just going to forget about them and launch myself into training. I've got a week of awesome on the water and shore training lined up, sorted out my goals for each day and basically just ready to hit it hard! Also need to do a bit of a repair on my boat as I had a bit of a collision a few weeks ago but it's only a small job.

This weekend my Mum, boyfriend Jonny and his Dad are doing a sprint triathlon, 400m swim, 20k bike and 5k run. Having never done one before I'm not at all sure what to expect but it will be fun (and hopefully sunny).

I'm also addicted to 24 at the moment, isn't Jack Bauer just amazing!!

New 'blog' so I can keep in touch easier!

Welcome to my 'blog'. Such a funny word!!  If you're visiting my campaign site for the first time...welcome! I hope you like it. If you have any questions then  do email me (harriette@gbrtrumble.com) .

At the moment I've been stuck in my room at university working through the years modules, preparing for 2 exams on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, so wish me luck! I did get a cheeky sail in on Monday (I did do lot's of work too Mum!!) which was awesome, wasn't too windy and took my sister out as she is teaching kids to sail in America over the summer and she hasnt sailed for a while.

Was supposed to be doing a half marathon in Plymouth tomorrow morning but my left hamstring doesn't seem to be happy enough. Shall see in the morning. Can't wait for exams to be over so that I can get out on the water and do some quality training. It does get a litle bit boring sat in the gym or running around the streets all the time without sailing to keep me sane but not long now!

Just booked ferries to get over to Kiel Week, a Grade 1 ISAF event in Germany at the end of June. I'll be staying with Anna (my cousin who is represeting the US at the Beijing Olympics...one to watch, she won the pre olympics last year and is getting some serious results in this year too).

I've just got back from Anna's wedding in Clearwater, Florida (not bad eh!) which was lovely and being around Anna is always a massive inspiration (as you might imagine!).

Got a meeting on Thursday with a lovely lady from 'Christians in Sport' to see how they can support me and help me reach my goals.

Just got to wait until it's time to go sailing....I want to go now!!

This is me in my bridesmaid dress at Anna's wedding in Florida!
