A New Year, New Opportunites, New Goals, New Focus

What a year 2008 is already shaping up to be. I have been so busy training, flying around the country to attend events and I have spent a lot of time getting to know sponsors better. I have also got a 1st in my first half of my degree this year so everything is crazy but very good.

I have attended 2 conferences on behalf of 'Sporting Champions', one in Portsmouth and one at my own university here in Exeter. I have had to give inspiring speeches at both and they have both been great fun. I have also made a speech at the Performance Textile Association exhibition about my journey to the Olympics and how the materials I use will help me get there. I was also due to be doing some filming for the BBC at Weymouth & Portland Sailing Academy tomorrow but it has been cancelled due to the storms which is a shame.

I am disappointed to not be able to be out in New Zealand at the moment gearing up to compete in the World Championships. I did get selected for the team easily but was unable to attend, which is such a shame but I am going to attend the European Championships in June and the National Championships in August  this year so there is enough to worry about and train for!

My training is going really well. I have been running a lot, recently completing a half marathon in Brighton a few weekends ago. I am aiming to complete a marathon later on this year but more details about that later in the year.

Thanks for the continued supported of all my sponsors and of all of you.

Happy sailing,

Harriette

19th Overall at European Championships!!

Well what a great last day to end this regatta. My two best results from the whole week, a 10th and 12th in the gold fleet, concluded my score line to leave me in 19th position overall. I am really happy and pleased with my performance out here. My training over the winter, in the gym and on the water has really shown this week and I’m delighted to have exceeded my goals and expectations. My boat speed was really good this week, and the event has shown me several key areas to work really hard at for next year.

Next up are the British nationals being held in Weymouth, the sailing venue for London 2012 Olympics. I am hoping to compete in this event but I’m going to see how my recovery goes after this hard, draining event and decide late next week.

Once again thank you for all your support.

Team Trumble GBR – 3rd day at the European Championships, Holland

The winds out here has been varied over the three days that we’ve completed, with only 3 races on the scoreboard.

 Sunday, the 1st racing day

Huge waves and a force 3 built to a force 5 giving us two windy races. I scored a 9th in the first race, which I was very happy with. In the second race is was in the top 10 again but by that time it was getting really windy and one mistake down the run left me capsized and working really hard to catch up. Another capsize on the second run lost me a few more places but I caught up and posted a 19th.

 Monday, the 2nd racing day

All racing was abandoned due to force 5/6 winds and 6/7 ft waves. The surfers and kite surfers had a good day!!

 Tuesday, the 3rd racing day

Tuesday was a long day. We started a race in a lot of tide and healthy 7-10 knots. I was lying 2nd on the last reach to the finish when the wind died and the race was abandoned. We did however, manage to complete one race in the 8 hours on the water. My start wasn’t so great but I sailed fast to finish 8th.

With a scoreline of 9,19,8 I am lying in 17th position overall. Last year I came 30th, so I’m very pleased with my performance out here so far.

A big high pressure that gave the UK some sun yesterday is now over Holland, meaning that todays wind may be very light. With a huge 4 knots of tide to overcome there has to be a significant amount of wind to be able to race. We will see what happens.

Many thanks to my sponsors, one again - Crest of a Wave, Harken, Muc Off, Exeter University and Azure Wear - without whom none of this could happen. If you want get involved and help but don’t know how to, why not get a Team Trumble GBR polo shirt (kindly made by Crest of a Wave), where any profits go towards my campaign, at only £15 they are a bargain!! If you are interested in joining my team as a sponsor or know anyone who might be interested then please don’t hesitate to contact me through the contact page or mail@gbrtrumble.com.
